what we believe

THE BIBLE: We believe that the Bible is the verbally inspired, inerrant Word of God, and as such is our ultimate authority in all things. We further believe that all portions of the Scripture are equally inspired, and that the Canon of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments is the complete and only revelation from God to man. (Luke 6:46; John 10:35, 17:17; I Thess.2:13; II Tim.3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21)

GOD: We believe that there is only one God and that He is infinite, eternal, sovereign, omniscient, omnipotent, and unchanging. We believe that God is one indivisible spiritual essence, but within the unity of the Godhead there are three coeternal and coequal persons who are the same in substance, but distinct in subsistence. (Deut. 6:4; Isa. 44:6; Matt. 3:16-17; 28:19; John 10:30; Acts 5:3-4; Hebrews 1:8)

GOD THE FATHER: We believe that Father is sovereign in creation, providence and redemption. He has decreed for His own glory all things that come to pass and continually upholds, directs, and governs all creatures and events. His fatherhood is His designation within the Trinity and He is the spiritual Father to all believers. (Gen.1:1-31; I Chron.29:11; Rom.8:14; 11:36; I Cor.8:6; Eph.1:11)

GOD THE SON: We believe that Jesus Christ is both fully God, and fully human. We believe that in the incarnation, Christ surrendered only His position and glory but nothing of His divine essence. We further believe that Jesus Christ was virgin born and that His purpose was to reveal God, and redeem human beings. We also believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Lord, Savior, and Mediator between God and man; and that in His literal physical resurrection from the dead, God confirmed His identity and the authority of His teachings. (Matt.1:23; John 1:1-3,14; 14:9 Acts 17:31; Phil.2:5-11; Col.2:9; I Tim.2:5-6)

GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe that the Holy Spirit possesses all the attributes of personality and deity and is coequal and of the same essence with the Father and the Son. His work includes convicting the world of sin, righteousness and judgment; and transforming believers into the image of Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the supernatural and sovereign agent in regeneration; that He baptizes all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling, instructing and empowering them for service. The Holy Spirit distributes all spiritual gifts to believers according to the divine purpose and will. We believe that those gifts which involve supernatural manifestations were intended to authenticate the Apostolic Gospel and are not normative for all believers throughout the Church age. (Matt.28:19; John 16:7-9, 12-13; Rom. 8:9, 29; I Corinthians 12:4-11, 13; II Cor.3:18; 13:14; Heb.2:1-4)

CREATION: We believe that all things were created by God in six literal twenty four hour days, and we reject any and all forms of theistic evolution. (Gen. 1:1-31; Ex.20:11; Col.1:16-17)

MAN: We believe that although mankind was originally created in the image of God, all people are sinners separated from God due to the sin of Adam, and their own individual sins, and that the consequence of this rebellion to God is eternal judgment upon those who do not repent. We believe that man is spiritually dead and is thus incapable of comprehending spiritual truth or doing what is good in God’s sight, and therefore is hopelessly lost. Therefore every person is completely dependent upon God’s grace if they are to be saved. (Gen. 1:27; Rom.2:5; 3:10-18, 23; 5:12-21; 6:23; I Cor.2:14; Eph.2:1-3; 5:5-6)

SALVATION: We believe that salvation is not earned by human merit in any way but is a free gift of God offered through God’s grace alone and received by faith alone apart from any good works. (John 1:12; 3:15-19; Rom.3:19-28; Eph.2:4-9)

ATONEMENT: We believe that our salvation was accomplished by Jesus Christ through the shedding of His blood on the cross, and that His death was a vicarious substitutionary sacrifice that paid for the sins of all those who would believe. Through the propitiatory death of Christ the believing sinner is freed from the punishment, penalty, power, and eventually even the presence of sin and is adopted into God’s family. The resurrection of Christ demonstrated God’s acceptance of the atonement guaranteeing that the debt of sin was fully paid. (John 10:15; Romans 3:24-25; 4:25; 8:34; II Cor.5:21; Heb.7:25; I Pet.2:24; 3:18)

REGENERATION: We believe that regeneration (the new birth) is a supernatural      work of the Holy Spirit by which God imparts spiritual life and a new nature. It is accomplished solely by the Holy Spirit through the instrumentality of the Word of God and enables faith and repentance in the sinner. Genuine re-birth manifests itself in a life that manifests progressive growth in Christ-likeness. (John 3:3-7; Eph.2:10; Tit.3:5; I Pet.1:23)

JUSTIFICATION: We believe that God declares judiciously righteous those who place genuine personal faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ, who repent of their sins, and seek forgiveness from God. In justification God imputes the righteousness of Christ to the believer, and imputes the sins of the believer to Christ. (Acts 2:38; Rom.3:28; 5:1; 10:9-10; II Cor.5:21)

SANCTIFICATION: We believe that every believer is set apart to God and is therefore declared to be holy before God and is therefore called a saint. We believe that all genuine believers also progressively grow in holiness and conformity to the will of God in their daily lives. We believe that growth in holiness is part of the evidence that fosters assurance of salvation, however we further believe that the struggle between the flesh and the Spirit is one that continues throughout a person’s life and that the eradication of sin does not take place until the believer is glorified. (Rom.6:11-22; II Cor.3:18; Eph.4:22-24; Phil.3:7-14; II Thess.2:13; Heb.10:14; I Pet.1:2; II Pet.1:3-11)

SECURITY OF SALVATION: We believe that salvation is eternally secure for all who genuinely receive it. The believer is not kept secure by their own merits, but by the power of God’s redemptive work. (John 5:24; 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Rom.8:31-39; I Pet.1:5; Jude 24)

SEPARATION: We believe that Christians are to actively seek to separate themselves from sinful and worldly practices, false doctrines, and those who propagate them because of our complete devotion to God and commitment to His ways. (Rom.12:1-2; I Cor.5:9-13; II Cor.6:14-7:1; II Tim.3:1-5; I John 2:15-17)

THE CHURCH: We believe that every believer upon exercising personal faith in Christ is immediately united to Christ by the Holy Spirit and is therefore a part of His body, the Church. (I Cor.12:4-13)

ORIGIN: We believe that the Church is not synonymous with nor did it replace Israel, but rather began at Pentecost as a mystery not revealed until this age. (Acts 1:5; 2:1-4; 11:15-16; I Cor.10:32; Eph.3:1-6)

LOCAL ASSEMBLIES: We believe that the Scriptures teach that there is one universal spiritual body of which all believers are a part, and yet that there are also distinct local assemblies that are not accountable to any larger organization unless it is the will of that particular assembly, (Rom.12:4-5; Rev.2-3)

AUTHORITY: We believe that there is one supreme authority in the Church and that is Jesus Christ as her Lord and Shepherd. (Eph.1:22-23; I Pet.5:4)

COMMUNITY: We believe that the Christian life is intended to be lived out in vibrant relational community, where each member contributes to the well being of the rest by the exercise of their God given gifts and that to refuse to do so is sin and weakens the individual and the community of believers. (I Cor.12:4-12; Eph.4:11-16; Phil.2:1-4; Heb.10:25)

MISSION: comprehensive participation in the redemptive plan of God, which is the deliverance of those who are lost and enslaved to sin, and are then transformed into mature and righteous children of God. We believe we are to be gracious, understanding, and accepting of those who are lost; but we are not to engage in sinful activities in our evangelistic pursuits, but instead our lives are to radiate the goodness, holiness and love of God. (Matt.5:16; 28:18-10; John 17:16-19; Rom.12:2; I Cor.9:22)

ORDINANCES: We believe that Christ gave two ordinances to the local church for its instruction and edification in worship: Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that Baptism is to be practiced by immersion and pictures the union of the believer with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. We believe the Lord’s Supper is a memorial practice that proclaims the believers’ confidence in the death of Christ and in His return for His people. Whereas the elements that are used are only representations of the flesh and blood of Christ, it is a time of genuine communion with the risen Savior. (Rom.6:3-10; I Cor.11:28-32)

PRIESTHOOD: As the only true mediator between God and mankind we believe that Jesus Christ is our High Priest through whom we pray and worship the Father; through Christ all believers are priests and because of Him have complete access to God to pray for themselves and others and need no other human intermediary. (I Tim.2:5; Heb.4:14-16; 10:19-22; I Pet.2:9)

SATAN: We believe that the devil is a real personal being, and that he actively resists the plan, purposes, and people of God through temptation, deceit, and suffering. We believe that the devil is a created being and exists under the sovereign control of God and therefore is not free to do whatever he wishes, but only what God permits. We further believe that the devil has been given dominion over this world in the present, and seeks to bring division within the church, but has already suffered his ultimate defeat through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and that he will be punished throughout eternity in the Lake of Fire. (Matt.25:41; Acts 26:18; Rom.16:20; Eph.2:2; 6:10-12; I Peter 5:8; Rev.20:10)

ANGELS: We believe in the real personal existence of both holy angels and demons. We believe that the holy angels are servants of God who carry out His will. We believe demons are evil angels in league with the devil against God. Although we believe that demons can and do afflict believers they are not able to spiritually possess them. (Luke 11:19; I Tim. 5:21; Heb. 1:4-13; James 2:19)

LAST THINGS: We believe that God has ordained all of history and that He has revealed the end of all things so that His people will remain courageous and faithful during hardships and suffering knowing that they have an eternal and secure reward, and that all evil will be punished. (Dan.4:35; Rom.8:24-25; II Thess.1:4-12; Heb.11:32-12:2; I Pet.1:13)

DEATH: We believe that death does not involve the loss of immaterial consciousness. Believers upon death are immediately in the presence of God and unbelievers are immediately in conscious torment. (Lk.16:22-24; 23:43; Phil.1:23; II Cor.5:6)

RESURRECTION: We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men; the saved to eternal life, and the lost to everlasting torment. (Dan.12:2; John 5:24-29; Rom.8:11; Rev.20:13-15)

HEAVEN: We believe in the real existence of Heaven as the dwelling place of God, and where genuine believers will dwell eternally in a loving relationship with God and in eternal bliss. (Matt. 6:20; 25:31-46; Phil.3:20; Heb.10:34; Rev.21:3-7)

HELL: We believe in the real existence of Hell where God will express His wrath in judgment upon those who remain in their sin with eternal death, torment, and eternal separation from God. (Matt. 25:31-46; Rev. 20:11-15)

THE SECOND COMING: We believe that Jesus Christ will return physically and visibly to earth at the conclusion of the great tribulation to act in judgment upon unbelievers and to establish His Messianic rule physically upon the earth. (Dan.7:13; Matt.24:30; Acts 1:10-11; I Pet.1:7; Rev.19:11-16)

THE MILLENNIUM: We believe that following the second coming Jesus Christ will literally and physically rule upon this earth for one thousand years. We believe this will be a period of time that fulfills OT promises for national Israel who will be awakened to repentance and belief by the grace of God. (Isaiah 65:17-25; Zech.8:1-7; Rom.11:25-29; Rev.20:1-7)

THE RAPTURE: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will return prior to the seven year tribulation period to resurrect both living and dead saints from the earth. (I Cor.15:51-53; I Thess.4:13-16; Tit.2:13)
